Pictures are worth a thousand words. But here, they are all worth just one: Love.

Late afternoon on the 27th of November, it was a beautiful sight in Delhi as hundreds of people marched from Barakhambha Road to Jantar Mantar, covered in rainbow colours, waving signs of freedom and equality, asking for their right to be who they are and choose who they love in the Delhi Queer Pride Walk, 2016.

To love and to be loved is a beautiful thing, as much as it is to be able to express oneself. That was the message of the parade, demanding a society that understands freedom and equality, a government that concerns itself with the rights and well being of all its people, and a country that doesn’t criminalise its people for merely being who they are. A draconian law like 377 cannot exist in a country to tramp on the lives of so many people. It cannot, as the Pride goers made it clear out loud. It should not.

As they marched into the sunset, the evening ended with a promise of hope. Not just love, but one could also smell waves of change in the air. And on the streets of Delhi, under the bright sun and cool early winter breeze, everyone found a sense of liberation, acceptance and love, for themselves and everyone around them.
