Photo essay from the Aath March Saath March parade held in Delhi for International Women's Day 2017 - a collectively organized march.

Together For Equality, Dignity, Safety, Freedom And Employment!

This International Women’s Day, we came together in solidarity to celebrate our progress and to resist the patriarchal, casteist, communal and regressive forces that are operating with utter impunity in our country.

The March was organized by a collective of 27 women’s groups across Delhi. About 300 people gathered near the Rajiv Chowk metro station where it was scheduled to begin. There were fiery speeches, demanding 33% reservation and the overthrow of the casteist and misogynist powers of oppression. There were songs and dance, celebrating womanhood and resistance.

Finally, the March began, in a neat file of two, that stretched for at least 500 m in length. The procession walked from Rajiv Chowk to Jantar Mantar, singing songs, chanting slogans, and holding up posters that campaigned for the end of female genital mutilation, the rights of the disabled, the end of Section 377, the rights of Dalit and Adivasi lives, among others.

At Jantar Mantar, we witnessed speeches, songs and a play by Asmita Theatre Group. Here is the event in photos.
