5 Global STEM Scholarships For Indian Women In Science

Here is a list of STEM scholarships offered to Indian women if they would like to pursue their higher education abroad.

Hello to all the girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics! This article is mainly for you. Throughout the 20th and 21st century we have seen an increasing number of women in science and technology. The number of women in Indian engineering colleges is also getting higher every year, but still some branches in science and technology, like aviation, that require high fees and despite of talent and interest many women give up their dream to study further.

Women in India are being encouraged more than ever to pursue a career in science. Here is another source of support for women. There are a lot of STEM scholarships offered to Indian women from under-graduation to doctoral level. Here is a list of some STEM scholarships offered to Indian women if they would like to pursue their higher education abroad.

1. Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarship

SWE scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year are available from December 1, 2016. The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs in the US, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. Scholarships are typically awarded in May (sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students) and July (freshmen and re-entry students) for use during the following academic year. Recipients are announced in September.

2. The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship Program 

Women Techmakers Scholars will each receive a cash award for the 2017-2018 academic year. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool, and scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate’s impact on diversity, demonstrated leadership and academic background. All scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the annual Women Techmakers Scholars’ Retreat in one Google’s Asia Pacific offices in 2017 to connect with fellow scholars, network with Googlers and participate in a number of workshops. Though the application is currently closed, it will be open again in 2018. It is a perfect opportunity for Indian women in computer science engineering or fields related to it.

3. Women In Aviation International Scholarships

Want to fly high but money is a problem? Well this scholarship is perfect for women who want to build aerospace and aviation careers! The 2018 scholarship program will begin in July and run through November 13, 2017. Applicants must be a member of Women in Aviation International by November 1, 2017. 4. Amelia Earhart Fellowship by Zonta International

This scholarship was established by Zonta International. They encourage women pursuing their career in aerospace engineering and related fields. Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree in the field of aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering, are eligible and encouraged to apply. Since the program’s inception, Zonta International has awarded 1,543 Amelia Earhart Fellowships, totaling more than US $9.7 million, to 1,114 women from 71 countries. 5. The Graduate Women In Science (GWIS) National Fellowships Program

The GWIS scholarship is to encourage research careers in the sciences by women. Awards will be given to women holding a degree from a recognized institution of higher learning, of outstanding ability and promise in research, who are performing hypothesis-driven research at any institution in the U.S. or abroad. Graduate Women In Science promote women pursuing career in natural sciences and are interested in research work. The applications are currently closed but will be soon open for fall semester of 2017.
