FII Campaign Manager Asmita Ghosh attended the Women Deliver 2019 Conference in Vancouver, Canada from 2-8 June 2019. The Women Deliver 2019 Conference was the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women, and was organised by Women Deliver, a leading global advocate for gender equality.

Selected as part of the international cohort of Women Deliver Young Leaders, Batch of 2018, Asmita Ghosh joined 300 other activists from across the world that advocate for gender equality and the health and rights of girls as women at the Women Deliver 2019 Conference. The Young Leaders played a huge role in ensuring that this conference did not miss out on the voices and the demands of young people, which was a central focus of the Conference.

As a Women Deliver Young Leader, Asmita was also a part of the select few in her batch that was competitively chosen to receive a Small Grant to carry out an advocacy project of her choice. This grant resulted in the creation of the #GBVinMedia toolkit – a toolkit designed for journalists and media professionals to report gender-based violence more sensitively and ethically. This toolkit is scheduled to be officially launched on July 4, 2019, and then sent to media houses and media schools across the country in order to implement gender-sensitive journalism on a mass scale.

At the Women Deliver 2019 Conference, Asmita had the opportunity to present the findings of this toolkit at a Digital Poster Presentation. The Digital Poster contained the major recommendations of the toolkit, and was displayed at the Women Deliver Conference for an hour on 5 June, 2019. Asmita had the opportunity to speak with fellow Conference participants about the toolkit and its advocacy impact during this time.
