Relief Funds For Assam And Bihar Floods: Here Is How You Can Contribute

There are some Government offices, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and corporations which have set up fundraisers for the floods where people can donate money as well as other material aid for the disaster-stricken states.

The death toll in Assam and Bihar floods has risen to a total of 166, with approximately 1.11 crore people being affected by the disaster. In Bihar, 72.78 lakh people have been affected till now, and in Assam 38.38 lakh people. The number of deaths has reached a total of 64 in Assam and 102 in Bihar.

Hundreds of relief camps have been set up in the states to provide shelter to displaced people. With the states facing shortages of food and other necessities, several relief funds have been set up and donation drives have been organized all over the country as mitigation measures.

With floods continuing of wreak havoc in Assam and Bihar, we can do our bit to donate money, clothes and other supplies. There are some government offices, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and corporations which have set up fundraisers for the floods where people can donate money as well as other material aid for the disaster-stricken states. Basic supplies such as food, clothes, blankets, medicines, sanitary napkins and utensils are urgently needed and can be donated at various collection centres and drop-off points set up all over the country.

1. Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Assam

People can donate to the relief fund set up by the government of Assam online or through bank transfer via cheque and demand drafts. Funds can also be donated through Unifies Payment Interface (UPI). Funds can be donated here.

2. Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Bihar

Donations can be made online to the Chief Minister Relief Fund of Bihar. Some other methods of fund transfer which are available are transfers through cheques, demand drafts, National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS). Funds can be donated here.

3. Goonj

NGO Goonj has invited both monetary contributions, which can be paid online, and urgently needed materials such as food items, tarpaulins, bed sheets, blankets, utensils, clothes, toiletries and other essential items such as mosquito nets, batteries, general medicines, etc. The NGO has organised collection camps in Mumbai and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Dropping centres for donations have been set up in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Rishikesh and Kochi. The details about the address can be found on their website. The funds and donations are being collected for both Assam and Bihar floods.

4. Uday Foundation

Uday Foundation, a New Delhi-based NGO, is accepting donations for Assam and Bihar flood relief. Food items, clothes, toiletries, tarpaulins, medicines, sanitary napkins, diapers, baby food, utensils, etc., which are urgently needed, can be donated at their collection centre in New Delhi. Money can also be donated online directly through the website, through bank transfers, cheques and online wallets.

5. Milaap

Milaap, an Indian crowdfunding website, has set up an online fundraiser for the floods in Assam. A virtual back account has been created for this purpose. People can donate money through online payment via debit and credit cards, net banking, online wallets, QR codes, cheques and UPI.

6. Paytm

The online wallet and UPI payment app has also set up a fundraiser to aid the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Money can be paid online via Paytm or through the Paytm wallet.

7. Zomato

The food delivery app has taken an initiative to contribute food to the victims of the Assam and Bihar floods – at a donation of rupees 50 for one meal, 500 for 10 meals and 5000 for hundred meals.

It has collaborated with Feeding India, a not-for-profit social organisation. The money received will be utilised to procure and cook food in disaster-stricken districts and served by Feeding India volunteers.

Feeling India is also inviting new volunteers and is accepting donations at various drop-off points.

8. Dignity in Floods

Dignity in Floods is a campaign by Mayuri Bhattacharjee asking the Government of Assam to build 50 women-friendly flood shelters in the 10 most flood-prone districts in the state. The lack of separate toilets for women and menstrual management hygiene facilities has created great inconvenience.

The campaign demands gender-segregated toilets and bathing facilities along with the provision of menstrual hygiene products and disposal facilities, as well as special provisions for lactating mothers and pregnant women. It has also demanded periodic visits and feedbacks from social welfare departments to ensure the safety of women and to provide security in cases of harassment.

Dignity in Floods is a campaign asking the Government of Assam to build 50 women-friendly flood shelters in the 10 most flood-prone districts in the state.

9. Wildlife Trust of India

Wildlife Trust of India operates through its outreach arm ‘Wild Aid’ and conducts ‘Rapid Action Projects’ to address conservation emergencies and help animals in distress. They have currently taken the crowdfunding route through ImpactGuru to raise funds to rescue animals in Assam. Donate here.
