Scroll.in is looking to hire an Associate Editor with excellent editing skills to shape complex, in-depth stories into compelling narratives. It is an opportunity to work with some of the best reporters in India and to help shape our coverage of critical challenges facing the country.
The ideal candidate will have an ear for language, an instinct for news, an interest in investigative journalism and an ability to copy-edit stories across formats and lengths. The basic requirement for the job is 5–7 years of high-quality feature editing experience. An understanding of the digital medium will be counted as a strength. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of a published work — including the headline and photo selection.
While the candidate is expected to work on a diverse range of topics, a specific focus area will be editing reportage produced under the upcoming Common Ground project, which takes an investigative view of India’s fundamental challenge to expand the capabilities and opportunities available to its billion-plus people while building a sustainable future. The project aims to produce a substantive piece of reportage every week on themes of health, education, work, gender, land and climate. The candidate will work extensively with the Common Ground reporters and young fellows, helping them sharpen their ideas and writing.
Scroll.in is a small newsroom. The candidate must demonstrate an appetite for teamwork and collaborative thinking.
