Watch: India’s First Transgender Band Pilots With A Powerful Song

This song by a transgender band will make your day!

Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films, to help further the cause of gender equality in India, launches India’s first transgender band, the Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack Band. Their debut single ‘Hum Hain Happy’, a Hindi remix of version of Pharrell Williams’ Happy, claims to be 2016’s happiest song. The 6 Pack Band comprises of six transgender singers hailing from the hijra community.

Anushka Sharma gives a voiceover at the beginning where she talks about how the transgender community is often stereotyped and harassed in the Indian society. She says,

“In India, the ‘hijras’ are a community almost in exile. Standing out at traffic signals after failing to blend in. Knocking on our windows in the hope for some kindness and perhaps a smile.”

Coming soon is another new single ‘Rab De Bande’ in collaboration with Sonu Nigam on 26th January. Watch this space for more updates!
