In what could probably be termed as just relief, the Madras High Court recalls its order referring a rape case to mediation.

An assistant sub inspector of Delhi police has been sent for 14 days of judicial custody for rape. ASI Javeer Singh who was posted at Punjabi Bagh police station in West Delhi, went to his friend’s place and raped his house help. The accused policeman raped the woman at gunpoint and was also under the influence of alcohol.

Another key witness in the rape case against Asaram Bapu, Kripal Singh, was shot at in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, making it the ninth attack against witnesses so far. Mr Singh’s statement in the case against Asaram Bapu had been recorded three months ago. In a statement given to the Additional City Magistrate, Mr Singh had alleged that people linked to Asaram Bapu had been threatening him for the last few days.
