A quick update of last week's news

Rs. 500 crore from the unused Nirbhaya fund is now being claimed by the railways to install CCTV camera at railway stations. It is easier to install CCTV cameras, than to set up one stop crisis centers!

And, the Central Railways refused to install any more panic buttons in local trains, since cases of false alarm was becoming a nuisance.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to Kerala government over the “pathetic” working conditions of women workers, who are not allowed to sit or go to toilet, during work at textile retail shops.

The Supreme Court decided to examine if Islamic laws governing marriage and inheritance violated the fundamental rights of women and take a call on how far it can intervene to modify codes that are among India’s most politically sensitive. The decision came after a batch of petitions filed by Muslim women said the practices were exploitative and violated fundamental rights of equality and non-discrimination guaranteed by the Constitution.
