About Fortify Health
Fortify Health has a vision for a healthier world where everyone has the micronutrients they need to survive and thrive. We work toward this by enabling access to micronutrient-rich wheat flour to reduce and prevent iron deficiency anaemia. We currently work in many regions across India but are planning to expand to new regions in the coming years.
Fortify Health operates through three work streams:
– Open Market Support: We support millers to cost-neutrally fortify chakki atta in the open market.
– Government Partnership Support: We work with governments in India to mainstream wheat flour fortification through social safety net programs
– Evidence Generation: We conduct monitoring and evaluation of activities to inform the public about the value of food fortification

About the role
The Junior Quality Control Officer will be based in Pune ensuring the quality of fortified atta and other aspects of the program as per Fortify Health guidelines. This person will be solely responsible for doing quantitative iron testing of fortified atta to ensure our partner mills are fortifying their flour adequately and safely. The Junior Quality Control Officer will be responsible for quality checks of premix, analyzing the testing data, preparing the reports based on analysis, communicating the outcomes with relevant team members, and preparing and maintaining SOPs for the quality control work. The Junior Quality Control Officer will manage communications with external laboratory partners for regular sample testing. They will closely work with the M&E, Program, and Regulatory Affairs teams at Fortify Health.
The Junior Quality Control Officer will be responsible for ensuring collaborative work with the M&E team. They will also have a base of knowledge about sample collection, analysis, and food technology to facilitate fortification successfully in mills. They have the exciting opportunity to bring their own unique experience into
this role.
The Junior Quality Control Officer will report to Fortify Health’s Quality Systems Manager.
Responsibilities and activities
The Junior Quality Control officer will be responsible for:
– Performing rapid quantitative iron testing in fortified wheat flour (using iCheck Iron, no prior experience of using iCheck Iron required) for all partner mills
– Analyzing the data, interpreting the results, and communicating the outcomes to respective team members
– Coordinating with the remote working team for getting the samples, planning and scheduling the tests
– Coordinating with external testing laboratory partners for testing of the samples and reports
– Conducting data entry in the system and documentation
– Preparing internal reports of the testing
– Designing SOPs for testing, analysis, QC, and selecting the appropriate testing methods as per the analytical and regulatory requirements
– Conducting quality control of fortification premix, maintaining the relevant QC documents, helping the operations team for vendor quality audits

Candidate profile
Requirements
– Educational requirements: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food science & technology and related fields
– Experience (in any of the following)
* Analysis and testing-related experience – handling/knowledge of micronutrient testing, analytical techniques like Spectrophotometer, HPLC, AAS, ICP-MS
* Experience in qualitative and quantitative testing of wheat flour will be an added advantage
* Experience in fortification &/or micronutrient analysis (Vitamins and minerals)
* Experience in documentation, SOPs preparation, sampling, preparation of laboratory reports, etc. will be preferred

– Strong organizational skills, with the ability to oversee the quality assurance process from mill to lab
