Website Nirantar: Resource Centre for Gender & Education
Nirantar is launching “Sexuality: Looking In, Looking Out”, an annual certified course in English, on understanding and exploring sexuality. The call for applications for the same ends on Sunday, 14th March, 2021. We request you to nominate FII team members for this course and to circulate the call for applications in the FII network.
We would also like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about this course and what is new and exciting about it. This course will address core concepts of sexuality related to sexual norms, identities and hierarchies. The focus will be on exploring sexuality in ways that recognize its non-binary messiness. Sexuality can involve sensations, feelings, desires, ideas and actions that seem to be very different, or even in conflict with each other. Sexuality can also involve powerful external structures that seek to exercise control, and assertions of agency, all at the same time. Moving beyond frameworks that assume that sexuality is neat and rational, the course will explore ways of understanding sexuality which are rooted in lived realities. The course will engage with contemporary questions of sexuality related to age (including ageing), psyche, digital technology, as well as social and political marginalization (caste, class, rural-urban and religion).
In its inaugural year, the course will be conducted online, over a period of six weeks, from April 1 (Thursday) to May 7 (Friday), 2021. Each week, classes shall be held on Thursday and Friday from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
This course will be conducted in English and all learning material and conversations will be in English as well. Therefore, all participants should have a good working knowledge of English (spoken and written). All participants will be expected to read regularly, including articles, academic papers, policy papers, case studies etc; actively participate in course activities and commit themselves to pre and post course work.
The course will be facilitated through a participatory methodology, from a critical feminist-intersectional lens. A variety of tools and activities will be used to conduct this course, which will encourage analytical thinking, self-reflection and co-learning among the participants.
People of all genders are welcome to participate. People from communities that experience marginalization based on gender, sexual, caste, religion, ethnicity and disabilities are encouraged to apply. We request participants with any special needs to kindly intimate us in advance, so that arrangements can be made accordingly.
Minimum qualifications required of participants:
- With minimum of three years of experience of working in the development sector, or
- MPhil/PhD Research Scholars working on areas of gender and sexuality
Participants will need to submit a registration fee of INR 1500. Nirantar will be providing some fee waivers, especially for students and grassroots workers.
