Year 2016 In Review – FII Inside News

2016 was a path-breaking year for us. In the begining of this year, I quit my full-time job and decided to work on FII full-time - the best decision I have made till now in my professional life.

2016: The Year We Went Full-Time

2016 was a path-breaking year for us. In the begining of this year, I quit my full-time job and decided to work on FII full-time – the best decision I have made till now in my professional life. Our team grew bigger and Adishi Gupta joined us as Content Editor.

New Programs

We initiated a lot of new programs in 2016:

  1. Online Magazine: We added four new sections in our online magazine – Mental Health & Wellness and Legal Rights spearheaded by Shruti Saxena and Srishti Agnihotri respectively, History suggested by Karthika S Nair and we became a bilingual platform and started publishing in Hindi as well, headed by Swati Singh. We also formed a new editorial policy to include more marginalized voices and make FII more intersectional.
  2. Trainings: We started digital and social media trainings for NGOs, NPOs and social enterprises to better amplify their work online. We conducted six trainings in a span of six months.
  3. Research: We conducted our first research on online violence against women in India with support of Freedom House.
  4. Wikipedia Editathons: In collaboration with Breakthrough India, we started conducting monthly Wikipedia Editathons on gender-related topics in India.
  5. Online Internship Program: We also initiated an online internship program for students and young professionals and successfully completed three batches supervising 14 interns.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person, organisation and/or group who has ever been involved with FII and helped us build a safe space to discuss, debate and dissent. We’re forever indebted to our community of fellow feminists and allies.

Below is a look at how 2016 was for Feminism in India. Here’s wishing you a very Happy New Year, and hope 2017 will be a bigger, better and more intersectional movement with YOU.
