Over the past few years, broadcast media has become synonymous with hate-peddling, war-mongering, and yelling matches on prime time debates. What remains central to this particularly preferred form of reportage of mainstream media are its star news anchors. News anchors with their particular brand of toxic masculinity.
But what exactly is toxic masculinity? And what’s it got to do with the media we’re consuming? Toxic masculinity can be defined as the cultural glorification of particularly negative aspects of cis-heteronormative manhood and masculinity such as male violence, dominance, aggression etc. Mainstream broadcast media has been especially subscribing to this particular form of masculinity.
