FII’s Hindi Editor Swati Singh received the Laadli Media and Advertising Award For Gender Sensitivity 2017 in the Campaign Web Category (Hindi – Northern Region) for her story on the harmful effects of plastic sanitary pads for FII’s campaign #ThePadEffect.
The Laadli Media award honours those in media and advertising who highlight gender concerns. The award ceremony took place on September 14 at United Service Institute of India from 6 PM onwards. Noted journalist P. Sainath was the Chief Guest and distributed the awards.
Swati’s story deals with the harmful effects of plastic sanitary pads on our bodies and the environment and what alternatives are available. This story is part of the larger campaign #ThePadEffect which advocates for sustainable menstruation.
This is not the first time that FII has won the Laadli Media Award. We received our first Laadli Media Award in 2015 for our campaign highlighting personal survivor stories of sexual harassment.
The Laadli Media awards were launched in 2007 to “honor, recognize and celebrate the efforts of those in media and advertising who highlight pressing gender concerns”. This is the ninth edition of the award. Population First, the organisation behind the award received around 1,500 entries from across the country for a total of 96 categories.
