Today, FII turns 12! For the past 12 years, FII has been committed to its mission of mainstreaming intersectional feminism, amplifying marginalised voices, and gendering discourse. As one of the few independent platforms speaking truth to power at a challenging time for media across the country, making it to our 12th birthday is a victory. We thank our readers for standing by us over the years and for the support and trust you have placed in FII and our work.
Our journey began with a Facebook page in 2013. In 2014, we launched our website and published our first article on this day, twelve years ago. A year later, in 2015, FII won the prestigious Manthan Award. The following year, in 2016, our 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual Harassment campaign won the Laadli Media & Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity in the Best Web Campaign English category.

FII also represented its work at multiple international conferences, including ASAP’s Youth Think Tank, RightsCon by Access Now, and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Mexico. We also presented our work at RightsCon in Brussels, the Stockholm Internet Forum, the Digital Citizen Summit in New Delhi, Amnesty International in Bern, and Making a Feminist Internet in Malaysia.
In 2017, FII participated in UN Women’s CSW conference in New York. This was followed by FII winning the UN World Summit Young Innovator Award in 2019. In 2021, the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation selected our website for inclusion in its South Asian Gender and Sexuality Web Archive. In 2022, FII received a grant from the Google News Initiative News Equity Fund.
Over the years, we’ve been honoured with numerous awards, including the Laadli Media Awards, the UN World Summit Young Innovator Award, the Orange Flower Award, the SCARF Mental Health Award, and the Social Media 4 Empowerment Award for our campaigns.

Today, we are an award-winning feminist platform that has published more than 15,000 articles across our English and Hindi verticals, produced numerous research reports, and led much-needed feminist conversations across the country. And none of this would have been possible without our dedicated readers.
Over the years, we have explored numerous formats, from text and videos to podcasts and short-form content. While FII’s work has evolved and the scope of what we do has expanded, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to our core values. As we celebrate 12 years of FII today, we reaffirm our commitment to feminist ethics, truthful journalism, asking difficult questions, and sparking conversations that matter.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
