The University Grants Commission has directed higher educational institutions in India to constitute Internal Institute Complaints Committee (ICC) with an inbuilt mechanism for gender sensitization against sexual harassment.
It mandates that at least one-half of the total members of the ICC shall be women and Persons in senior administrative positions, such as Vice- Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Registrar, Deans, Heads of Departments, etc., shall not be members of ICCs in order to ensure autonomy of their functioning. The Inquiry has to be completed within 90 days and the Institution has to take effective action within 30 days after the receipt of recommendation.
Does your campus have an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), a Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) or a Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CCASH)? Is it effective? Does ‘due process’ work?
#MakeMyCampusSafe looks at the sexual harassment redressal mechanisms in college campuses across India and puts focus on the systems in place to check sexual harassment on campus.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”What can you do?” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|color:%23e7343f” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Have you had experience dealing with your college’s sexual harassment redressal committee?
